Meet Tenaya!

picture-1

(at left, captured by Forever21 bloggers at Coachella)

Say hello to Tenaya, the resident Shipping Specialist here at Nasty Gal.

Yes, she’s the one that makes sure you promptly receive that dress you can’t possibly live another second without. She also happens to have really fantastic style, so we asked her to sit down (on her break, of course) and fill us in on a few of her favorite things:

What do you find most inspiring? Blogs, magazines and my grandma’s old photo albums from the 60′s and 70′s.

What are you most excited to wear this spring? i’m excited to rock denim shorts again!

Describe your perfect Sunday: Thrift shopping and exploring with my pug, Dexter.

Your 3 wardrobe essentials: Oversized cardigans, black flats and racer-back tanks for layering.

You couldn’t live without: Unfortunately, i think it would be instant communication. I’m addicted to my Blackberry.

Your favorite thing about working at Nasty Gal: Definitely the people and getting to watch the business succeed and grow right in front of me!

Seriously obsessed with anything that incorporates eyes and other body parts into the design lately.

Don’t you think those eye knickers would make for one hell of a DIY project?

These sketches of the ridiculously amazing Miu Miu SS/10 heels from Parisian blogger Janelle Burger might just be the next best thing to actually getting your hands on a pair.

We’re waiting with baited breath for her Etsy shop to open!

Blogger We Adore: Annabel of Blushing Ambition

annabel

It goes without saying that we love a girl that loves fashion, but we really love a girl who loves fashion and isn’t afraid to eat.

Such is the case with the totally adorable Annabel of Blushing Ambition.

Along with always inspiring outfit posts, you can expect to find plenty of mouth-watering (like, so good you forget about that upcoming trip to Cabo) food shots and tales from restos around the Bay Area and L.A. She even shares recipes with step-by-step photos, sure to make even the most devout takeout fans want to spend more time in the kitchen.

So, naturally, we had to ask what inspires the girl that inspires us:

What article of clothing best sums up your style? I’d say that my favorite vintage oversized silk shirt best sums up my style because it’s simple and easy to wear. I usually dress it down with a pair of skinny jeans yet I can also easily wear it out at night tucked into a mini pencil skirt. I like feeling comfortable most of the time without putting in too much effort and drapey silk shirts are the easiest to style for me.

Your 3 wardrobe staples: A simple white t-shirt, comfortable black skinny jeans, and black ballet flats.

Who do you find most inspiring? Anna Karina as Nana in Vivre Sa Vie, I love how she wears cardigans in that film.

Is there anything you’d never be caught dead wearing? Harem pants. I don’t think I can pull off the “droopy poopy pants” as well as others.

Favorite fashion decade: The 60′s, hands down. I’m obsessed with sleeved shift dresses.

What are you most excited to wear this season? My super high peep-toe Swedish Hasbeens. I have a pair in Cognac and they go with just about everything!

Band you can’t stop listening to: Capsule. I have their latest release, Player, on repeat on my iPod.

Your perfect Sunday: Wake up, have a hearty brunch and coffee with the BF, wander over to Dolores Park and sit on the grass until it’s too chilly, pick up groceries for dinner, cook up a simple dinner at home, and end the night playing Starcraft II. Well, actually, now I watch my BF play, but he’s actually really good so it’s quite exciting to watch. We’re a boring couple.

Something you can’t live without: I can’t live without cheese. Havarti, manchego, cheddar, rocamadour, etc. I love cheese with everything but I especially love it by itself. It’s my favorite snack.

One last bit of advice, you might not want to look at this blog when you’re starving…for food or a new wardrobe.

Nasty Gals Do It Better: Cat-Eye Sunnies

mar_23_5

We were beyond stoked to see Milwaukee fashion blogger Beth Musni sporting our current spectacle obsession, NG’s Jetson Shades. The self-proclaimed ‘reformed tomboy’ gives her basic tee-and-jean combo a serious edge with the futuristic cat-eye sunnies and bold pout, proving it’s all about the details (down to the partially tucked-in tee). Needless to say, we had to ask the aspiring fashion writer to divulge a bit more about her sartorial inspiration:

Describe your style: A mix of whimsical and sophisticated pieces with a dash of tomboy and rocker elements. I love refined vintage dresses, but also appreciate a good pair of shredded leggings.

What do you find most inspiring? Growing up in a conservative town, I had a tough time finding inspiration. Thank goodness for fashion magazines and the internet. I’m inspired most by images of people on fashion blogs, especially the ones that are both resourceful and creative. I look at editorial fashion as a fantasy with elements that can be used in my own life.

Favorite fashion decade: Without a doubt, the 80’s for its eccentricity, exaggerated shapes, and reckless use of color. Even though silhouettes could be a little explosive, there were still some important pieces, like bandage dresses, that remain classic figure-conscious shapes.

What are you most excited to wear this spring? Sundresses with wedges. I think this season encourages a lot of contrast, and since sundresses are so light and airy, the heaviness of wedges will compliment the shape of the garment beautifully.

One thing you couldn’t live without: The internet. It’s helped me connect with people thousands of miles away, and serves as this massive encyclopedia with endless amounts of information and images. Okay, I occasionally browse online clothing stores too, but that’s just market research, right?

An Earful: Dum Dum Girls

22

dumdumgirls452_

Full confession: I am beyond obsessed with girl group bands.

From the Shangri-Las to Veruca Salt to En Vogue to the 5.6.7.8′s, there’s just something about all-female groups that sparks my inner “girl power” a la Baby Spice (side note: my fave was Posh but now that she’s Victoria Beckham, it’s just weird). And yes, I’m aware how totally cheesy that sounds, but I’d venture to say it secretly does the same for you. Anyway, that’s why I was so smitten when I first listened to all-girl-band-on-the-rise, Dum Dum Girls.

Apart from the insanely rad name, I just can’t get enough of their garage-rock-meets-’60s-girl-group sound and bad-ass style. Get a taste of what I’m rambling about by snagging a copy of their just-released debut LP, I Will Be, or if you’re feeling more old school, surf their MySpace page (yes those still exist). Hope you love them as much as I do!

xox,

Jaclyn
