Wednesday, April 25, 2012 California Dreamin’: The Story Of A Patch Of Skye

Aussie darling Skye McRae’s favorite color is rainbow. She lives by the ocean in Tamarama, Sydney, considers California her second home and loves Sunday afternoons. Skye is the voice behind the blog, A Patch Of Skye - a platform for creative escapism and, more importantly, a space where she can drift into a mystical world where she matches beautiful images with poetic poses. Her blog is a visual diary that encapsulates Skye’s inspirations: “Poetry and people’s secret thoughts are what inspire me most. Those ideas combined with soft, whimsical imagery that talks to the viewer through the emotions that they bring”.

Her creative process feels like a séance where she browses through tons of images on the hunt for that special photograph that makes her heart beat faster: “After looking at it for a while, I come up with a phrase that somehow directly links what the image says to me on a personal level and where my mind is at, at that point. When the time comes to add another image and another pose, I look at the colors of the last post, and merge the tones together, so that when put together as one, all of my images tell one story, which ultimately is the story of A Patch Of Skye”.

We leave you with one of Skye’s visual tales.

Tuesday, April 17, 2012 California Dreamin’: The Coachella Edition

Coachella is always an incredible desert oasis where the real world seems to disappear.

You have your pick of basically every band you’d want to see, from bobbing your head to The Black Keys, dancing in the hot sun to Santigold (remember the sunblock!) or being mesmerized by Florence and the Machine as she twirls on stage. The best part is that you feel like you’re in this crazy fashion montage set to the Coachella soundtrack since you can’t escape the festival babes as they weave through the crowds, and lounge-slash-pose on the grass field. Here’s a glimpse into our sun-soaked (and sunburnt) weekend.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 California Dreamin’: Rose Bowl Flea Market

Pasenda Rose Bowl Flea Market Shopping

On the Second Sunday of every month, you’ll usually find us (and every other vintage-crazed girl) at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena.

Of course, one of our favorite things about the Rose Bowl is getting to spot some of the coolest street style in LA. We always end up snapping a ton of photos while we’re on the hunt for vintage treasures. Here’s some of the sweet stuff we found on our latest trip!

Denim Cross Jean JacketSmiley Face Neon Rings

We spotted this girl sifting through the racks in an epic denim jacket with a leather cross and  collar. Badass doesn’t even begin to describe it. And how rad are these neon smiley face rings? They brought us back to the days we proudly rocked slap bracelets…in a good way.
