Souped-Up Kicks

We’ve been seriously stepping up our sneaker game lately, and apparently we’re not the only ones. Since classic styles like Chucks, Vans, and even Docs are essentially a blank canvas, we love to make them stand out from the pack by adding DIY details – whether you’re into spikes, studs or hand-drawn doodles.

Don’t be afraid to get crazy and have fun with it – your one-of-a-kind kicks are sure to give you some major street cred. Before breaking out the spray paint and BeDazzler, here are some of our favorite DIY sneaks for inspiration.

Ashley Glorioso + Zoey Grossman

The first time Ashley and Zoey met on the set of a photo shoot, they instantly knew they were destined to be BFFs. Since Ashley also happens to be a super-star stylist and Zoey one of LA’s coolest photographers, they started collaborating on projects for their designer friends as much as possible. The result has been pure magic – whether they’re grooving on hippie vibes, having a glitter-fueled ’70s disco party, or whatever else the job calls for, they always take it to the next level.

Since we love nothing more than awesome girls joining forces, we chatted with Ashley about working and playing with her partner-in-crime.

The Girl From Oz

We can’t stop daydreaming about catching some rays and waves after stumbling upon this ’06 Vogue UK editorial featuring Aussie doll, Gemma Ward. The laidback surfer vibes, playful print mixes and cutout swimsuits serve as serious summer inspiration for our weekend wardrobe…and have us ready to pack our bags and head Down Under. Wanna join?

Chat With Our Shoe Buyer, Jacqueline!

Live for platforms? Our next Chit Chat LIVE! is coming up Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. PST with the most shoe-obsessed girl we know, Jacqueline! Check out her crazy cool style, then get ready to chat about everything from how to rock your new wedge sneakers to what your dream heels would look like. Until then, here are five random things you should know about Jacqueline:

Pump Up The Volume

By now, you’ve probably noticed our undying love for all things rock. Sorry Stevie, but this week we’re swapping our fringe kimono for cutoffs, platform sneakers and hoops. It’s time to turn up the volume and blast some jams that are impossible not to dance to, from Neneh Cherry’s old school rhymes to Die Antwoord’s latest track.

Anna Bayle

Crowned as the model of the Eighties and world’s first Asian supermodel, Anna Bayle became the muse of Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace, and Givenchy. No wonder – her fresh look and ability to pull off both the androgynous and the glamorous made other models step up their game. Long story short, this beauty will forever be an inspiration to us.

Simone, Our Merchandising Assistant

Quilted Moto Jacket, thrifted beaded dress and collar necklace

With a killer head of curls and (always) towering heels, it’s impossible not to look at Simone as she breezes through the office to help our shoe buyer take your closet to another level. Though Simone’s style can go from ’60s chic to crazy disco queen depending on her mood, she’s almost always spotted in head-to-toe black or white with an electric jolt of color thrown into the mix.

What inspires her the most? “Working at Nasty Gal has really impelled me to step up my fashion game. Since I have such a bi-polar sense of style, literally everyone that works here has made an impression on my wardrobe. And while I love buying new shoes and denim, I’ll always be a die-hard fan of vintage clothing. I love the idea that there aren’t a million other people walking around with a dress that I’m wearing. Since I can’t quite afford Missoni and Chanel (YET), vintage has been the best way to stand apart.”
