Thursday, December 27, 2012 Sophia’s Corner: Flashback—2012′s Wild Ride

Happy Holidays! Nasty Gal has really “grown up” over the past year—a challenging and truly wild ride. Without your support, we couldn’t have accomplished all that we have in 2012. And what might that be, you ask? Let’s take a scroll back (er, down) in time together…

We Hired More Than 100 People!

We hired more than 100 designers, stylists, photographers, buyers, technologists, cool kids and fancy executives this year. And we’re all behaving ourselves, getting shit done and having a blast together while we’re at it. Pictured above is our entire Los Angeles headquarters team. And that’s not even the half of it…

What’s More:

We launched a for-real collection! Everything we make is designed in our Los Angeles offices with love and laughter. We’ve only just begun, so get ready for even more amazing collections coming your way in 2013.

We also launched SUPER NASTY, our biannual magazine dedicated to fashion, art, photography and culture. We’re hangin’ with you on your nightstands and next to the toilet. What? It’s OK to be intimate.

Elle magazine’s Maggie Bullock wrote a fantastic piece on the brand, featuring images from our lookbooks earlier this year with models Hyoni Kang and Hannah Holman.

Founder Sophia Amoruso (that’s me) was featured on the cover of Entrepreneur magazine’s January 2013 issue. I know, it doesn’t count as “this year” but it’s on newsstands now, so close enough, right?

We Moved Eastward

We relocated our fulfillment operations into 500,000 square feet of space in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s a huge, open expanse waiting to be filled with wild dreams and even wilder clothes. Being centrally located in Kentucky means that we can get you your cute shit faster no matter where you are in the US!

XOXO Sophia

Thursday, December 27, 2012 Studio Soundtracks: Best Of 2012

All throughout the year here in the Nasty Gal studio we danced, we laughed, we dropped it down low… Here are our ultimate songs for 2012—enjoy!

 “Wavvy” by Mykki Blanco

Perhaps one of the most interesting videos we were into this year. Beyond that, “Wavvy” has a beat that’s made for a nitty gritty night on a dance-floor.

“Baby’s On Fire” by Die Antwoord

Oh hell nah! We got down in the desert with model Anja Konstantinova for our “Wild Child” lookbook like it was 1999. Definitely an anthem during the summer for our entire team.

“Only In My Dreams” by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Hands down, Ariel Pink’s “Mature Themes” was one of the best records released this year! Check out this video for “Only In My Dreams,” featuring awesome cameos from Geneva Jacuzzi and the girls of Puro Instinct.

“Everything Is Embarrassing” by Sky Ferreira

With a little help from Blood Orange, Sky Ferreira turned up on this list with her coy yet catchy love song. Warning: we’re currently addicted.

IO Echo – “When The Lillies Die”

2012 wouldn’t have been as pleasant to the ears if it weren’t for our friends IO Echo. This is one of the more unique tracks to come out of 2012, and one of the better shows we rocked out at this year.

“Genesis” by Grimes

Grimes and friends definitely gave us a whole lot of style inspiration this year. She also gave us some awesome videos and some major audio candy this year as well.

 “Pyramids” by Frank Ocean

It would’ve been hard not to hear our crew shout out lines from this song all year. For whatever reason “working at the pyramids tonight” just stuck, and was a staple on our road trips to Vegas and through the red sands.

“Swimming Pools” by Kendrick Lamar

This was a game changer. We listened to this track nonstop shortly before it became a house party staple. Still my number one request when I’m out with friends.

 “Diamonds” by Rihanna

I don’t think you can talk about 2012 and not talk about Rihanna in some way. “Diamonds” was a staple while shooting our New Year’s lookbook because like it or not, it just happened to come on the radio ten times…. Yeah, we’re not complaining.
