Terrifying Teenage Girls

1. Jennifer Check in Jennifer’s Body (2009)

It’s pretty obvious we have a thing for bad girls here at Nasty Gal, but since it’s still Halloween, we thought we’d take it one step further—with teenagers that truly terrify us. Between Regina George’s backstabbing, Kathryn Merteuil’s mind games and Jennifer Check’s thirst for blood, we rounded up the top ten ladies in film who have seriously scared the crap out of us.

LIZ Y2K

Do us a favor and Google “LIZ Y2k.” Why? ‘Cause she’s going to be the next big thing, and we’re totally calling it. The internet-obsessed L.A. native is equal parts badass streetwear babe as she is ’90s pop star princess. This week, she’ll be heading out on tour with Charli XCX, and to celebrate, we had her take some killer Nasty Gal pieces for a spin through Little Tokyo. (Spoiler alert: A Justin Bieber piñata also makes an appearance.)

Backstage Hangs With Sky Ferreira

Guys, it’s a really big week for Sky Ferreira. Today, her highly-anticipated (as in, several years in the making) album Night Time, My Time was officially released, and—after weeks of forced vocal rest—she kicked off her postponed tour on Sunday at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. Lucky for us, we got to catch up with Sky right before her performance to talk about style inspiration, walking in her first NYFW show, and, of course, dudes.

Wino Forever

age 17

Happy birthday, Winona Ryder! To celebrate one of the coolest chicks ever, we rounded up her most iconic ’90s-era movie roles to serve as some serious throwback style inspiration. (Bonus: Some of these ensembles double as killer Halloween costumes.) Join us in wishing the greatest a very happy birthday!

Meet The Cult: Miyako Bellizzi

 miyako-2

We fell in love with NYC Shoe Cult Ambassador Miyako Bellizzi thanks to her badass Bettie-Page-meets-’90s-streetwear aesthetic, but more so because girl can take some dang good photos. When she’s not shooting killer fashion spreads, she does a bang-up job styling (and sometimes modeling!) for ’em—and we’ve got proof. Miyako took some Nasty Gal pieces for a spin around her East Village ’hood, and we are seriously inspired by her edgy-yet-feminine approach to our favorite fall staples.

Meet The Cult: Venus X

venus-x-show-cult

Our latest Shoe Cult Ambassador Venus X isn’t just a pretty face, she’s a badass businesswoman and DJ who heads up the infamous underground GHE20G0TH1K parties. She said, “In 2009, I started [GHE20G0TH1K] at a small dive bar in Bushwick, and it has grown to be a cornerstone of NYC youth culture!” To celebrate, she’s throwing an insane Halloween bash this Thursday, and she’ll also be touring with M.I.A. starting November 1 (!!!), so be sure to catch her while she’s still in town. In the meantime, check out the M.I.A.-inspired mix by GHE20G0TH1K regular Mike Q to get you through these last (long) days before All Hallows’ Eve.

Raise Hell, Wreak Havoc

halloween-new

We’re always pulling style inspiration from the ladies we love in everyday life (see: the entire Shoe Cult team), but one day a year we want to go balls out badass. So, this Halloween we’re dedicating our ensembles to some of the most fearless females in film: The Fabulous Stains’ Corinne BurnsWednesday Addams, and Pris from Blade Runner. We took three UCLA students, dressed them up, and let their characters take full control. Sit back, relax and watch as their alter egos take over the streets of Los Angeles.
