FKA twigs

We don’t know what we love more about FKA twigs: her hypnotic dance moves (think: subdued belly dancer), her unique brand of style (gelled chola curls, strong brows, ornate septum ring, and a red lip? Yes, please), her unmatchable music videos (anime-esque “Water Me” is as absurd as it is simple) or her siren-like voice (just try listening to “Papi Pacify” and not falling into a lovely trance). What we do know is that we’re beyond excited to finally be witnessing all of that live at her El Rey Theatre show in Los Angeles tonight.

#GIRLBOSS: CIARRA PARDO

For the final installment of the Portrait of a #GIRLBOSS series, we’re profilin’ Ciarra Pardo – best known for her work as Rihanna’s Creative Director (nbd). In her video, Ciarra talks about growing up as an overachiever in the Bronx, working a full-time job at the age of 15, and mastering the balance of work and play. Also: a life lesson she learnt from her horse. Awesome.

Because we love Rihanna (and you’re obsessed too) we’ve posted our fave Bad Gal music videos.

Fresh Face: Chloe Worthington

Hello-Tomorrow-GifChloe3

Melbourne born and bred model Chloe Worthington is one to watch. The 19-year-old ex-ballerina has legs for days and has shot with Vice, SRC783, and Oyster Magazine. We caught up with the tiny dancer to talk about waffles, Instagram stalking, and her daily hang out spots.

Summer Suitcase Essentials With MAKE Creative Director, Ariana Mouyiaris

Ariana_3

Well hello there, new favorite make up line. MAKE might be one of the newest brands on the beauty block, but they’ve already nailed that elusive combination of high-quality products, on-trend colors, and super-cool packaging (v. essential). Also: It’s all paraben free, cruelty free, and never tested on animals. Oh, and did we mention that 10% of every sale goes towards the company’s We See Beauty foundation, especially set up to benefit women-led cooperative businesses? Yeah. Kinda awesome.

In honor of its Nasty Gal launch, we asked MAKE’s jetsetting Creative Director Ariana Mouyiaris to share the five suitcase essentials she can’t live without.

#GIRLBOSS: ROSSON CROW

Artist Rosson Crow paints big, and thinks even bigger. Her large-scale artworks are drenched in color, bursting with energy, and vibrant with character and life…kinda like the artist herself.

In today’s Portrait of a #GIRLBOSS, Rosson talks about growing up in Texas, making art in New York, and why she listens to a lot of rap music while she works. She also discusses some of the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry, and tells us why she’s all for making bad paintings. After all, says Rosson, “mistakes can be good” so long as you learn something from them. Spoken like a true #GIRLBOSS.

Did you see the last three #GIRLBOSS portraits? Go watch ’em all now!

Here some of Rosson’s art in case you are not familiar with her incredible work.

Gals Of Summer: Chanel Castaneda

Screen Shot 2014-06-10 at 1.41.36 PM

Chanel Castaneda is a girl who knows how to have fun. Not just in the party sense of the word (although she certainly has that bit down), but in seemingly every aspect of her life. The petite Los Angeles native spends her time pal-ing around with some of our favorite It-girls, including Brooke Candy, Venus X, and stylist Alexis Knox. She is an actress, a model, and a muse, and is best known for her unique and borderline cartoonish take on style: think giant platforms, bleached Barbie hair (currently dyed  a dusty pink), and bold, sexy fashion. Check out some of our favorite party snaps of Miss Chanel below.

Ode To Lana

lana-del-rey

“Are you sick, or just a lesbian?” pried the USC sorority girl washing her hands next to me, upon first glance at my newly shaved head. This was a whole bunch of years ago, but when I’m back in the vicinity of my alma mater for the sold out Lana Del Rey show at The Shrine Auditorium, it all comes back to me. Perfect tens and misfits are still the theme of the night.
