Friday, April 18, 2014 California Dreaming: A Visit To For Love & Lemons HQ

LoveLemons_4

We’ve been huge fans of For Love & Lemons for quite some time now, but when they launched their lingerie line Skivvies last fall, we officially needed to get to know the faces behind one of our favorite LA brands. As it turns out, founders Gillian Mahin and Laura Hall are in a super chill space Downtown (near us!), so we asked them if we could stop by to check out their digs, and take a peek at their spring Skivvies collection IRL. They very (very!) nicely obliged, and their lingerie designer Keenan Evans even chimed in to tell us how much work actually goes into building a bra. (Spoiler alert: It’s a lot.)

Friday, April 18, 2014 Just Sayin’: Weed Chat: Part 1

Everyone remembers their first time—smoking weed, that is. In honor of Sunday’s stoner holiday (4/20!), our Nasty Gal homies got real about their first encounter with the magical herb. Here’s part one of a three-part cyber hangout.

Thursday, April 17, 2014 Studio Soundtracks: Meredith Graves

IMG_0938

Meredith Graves reminds me of Judy Garland—if Judy Garland threw herself around in circles on stage, stomping her feet and manipulating her hands to match her lyrical questions of marriage, love and rejection. The Syracuse-based front woman and her band Perfect Pussy recently signed to Captured Tracks and their critically-acclaimed debut release Say Yes To Love sent them across the country and beyond, a few times over. Always on the road and turning heads, Graves is a pixie dust, banging ball of fury with unique style. I would call her “old-world-charm-meets-early-millennium-pop-punk”. I sat down with my dear friend Graves to talk about fashion on the road and take a peek through her favorite looks in some tour snapshots.  —Mish Way

Tuesday, April 15, 2014 Studio Soundtracks: Chromeo

Chromeo and I go wayyy back. Let’s just say I made a YouTube video of myself dancing in ’80s pumps to their song “Needy Girl” back in 2007 and (very proudly) posted it to my LiveJournal. Yeah, it was that long ago. (Don’t bother Googling it, people. That shiz is on lockdown.) As it turns out, Dave 1 and P-Thugg stopped by the Fonda Theatre right here in L.A. to play a show before they headed off to the desert, and I got to chat ‘em up about all the latest haps—their upcoming album White Women, festival fashion, and their love for JNCOs. (Seriously.) Check it out below. —Chrissy Mahlmeister

Thursday, April 10, 2014 Film: Be Here Nowish

_MG_0147(small)

We hope you’re not doing anything this weekend because the first four episodes of Be Here Nowish just dropped, and you’re definitely gonna wanna watch this series. In case you missed it, the show’s co-creators Alexandra Roxo and Natalia Leite launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund their female-driven comedy about “two sexually progressive New York gals who ditch their down-and-out lives for LA in search of a spiritual awakening,” which means, yes, we’ve been waiting nearly a year for this. So, we caught up with Alexandra and Natalia to talk to them firsthand about their highly-anticipated series debut, working with Karley Sciortino (a.k.a Slutever), and what’s lacking in the current TV landscape.
