Wednesday, May 8, 2013 Artsy Fartsy: Chewing The Fat with Photographer Stephanie Gonot
Imagine the endless life possibilities if you’d never listened to a word of your parents’ bogus advice. A thousand weird faces (no, they won’t stay that way) and maybe a few too many tattoos later, you might also have an exciting career playing with your food, like our very own Super Nasty contributing photographer Stephanie Gonot.
Since she started in 2010, she’s made a name for herself with her strange and disparate food photography. The weird pairings of her subjects and her matter-of-fact photo style create still lifes that are at once alarming and hilarious. “Working with food is great because people have strong reactions to it if it’s a little bit off,” she says. With brightly lit, highly saturated cacti nestled into a mountain of ice cream or cigarettes snuffed out into a Rite Aid pastry, it’s hard not to have a visceral, if confused, reaction to her work.
Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Artsy Fartsy: A Visit To M/MANIFESTATION
When we heard that M/M Paris’ first West Coast exhibition was happening just over the hill from us at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, we were pumped! The hyper-creative and majorly lauded Parisian design duo, Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, are most well known for their unique integration of hand-drawn illustrations with rich photographs, but they’ve also made serious waves in the fashion and music world as well, with their trippy and emotional video for “Hidden Place” by Bjork and as creative consultant and art director for Vogue Paris (we’re impressed, which is hard to do). The exhibition, M/MANIFESTATION, just wrapped up on April 28th (sorry L.A. locals!), but lucky for you all, we managed to get there in time to check it out and grab a few snaps! Click through to see what we saw—namely, another collection of visual images making a turn towards The New Aesthetic, while still integrating their more iconic use of hand drawn and printed techniques.
Friday, April 26, 2013 Artsy Fartsy: Zoe Burnett – A Citizen of the Internet
Our web designer Martine has braved James Franco in corn rows and watched rainbows melt, all in the name of enriching our Artsy Fartsy world here at Nasty Gal. This time, she clues us in on GIF artist (yes, it’s a thing) Zoe Burnett—and picks her brain on the important stuff, like screen names and Kid Pix. Plus, because Martine is extra-cool and persuasive, Zoe Burnett crafted two exclusive GIFs just for Nasty Gal (scroll to the bottom of this post to check ‘em out).

What’s better than watching your favorite band’s new music video and just one step closer to participating in their mad creative romp? We’re going to go with the following: A perfectly trippy, totally techy and utterly cool interactive video. And who could possibly be responsible for such a dream come true? Io Echo, of course. Of course.

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 Artsy Fartsy: Lets Get Physical
Evidently, those evil geniuses over in Vice-land are on the sporty spice style tip these days, too. They teamed up with California girl Kelly Ash and mega-babe Lauren Young for a athletic shoot worthy of the Presidential Fitness Test. Not only are we bowled over by the concept, styling and photography, but look—they even featured Nasty Gal pieces. Guys, the feeling is mutual.
