Monday, August 4, 2014 Just Sayin’: This Week’s Mantra

photo

This week’s mantra comes courtesy of Jenné Lombardo, co-founder of MADE Fashion Week, owner of her own consulting company The Terminal Presents (which boasts clients like Alexander Wang, Playboy, and Macy’s), and a true #GIRLBOSS who definitely no longer needs introduction. Follow her for more motivation (and a whole lot of killer fashion) @jennelombardo.

Thursday, July 31, 2014 Studio Soundtracks: Lady DJ: Kitty Cash

DOUBLECOVER

We’ve been crushing on Kitty Cash for a while. But with the release of her new EP, Love the Free 2, we’ve fallen even harder. Like her first, the new mix celebrates the intersection of fashion, art and music. On the EP are some of Kitty’s favorite artists, including Kilo Kish, SZA, and Jesse Boykins. But that’s not all. The release party and accompanying weekend-long exhibition are going one step further, recognizing the power of collaboration through multi-sensory experience.  EP artwork from Jonni Cheatwood stands near a flower installation by Alison Valentine, all while a video diary is projected onto a blank wall. All in all, the exhibit is an experiment in diverse tastes and the people who curate them. We caught up with the mastermind to talk EP emotions, guilty pleasures, and what exactly happens when Bey shows up to your gig.

Emojis are the lifeblood of worldwide communication. When you really think about it, nothing is more important than expressing your ideas through tiny illustrations of really pointless things. Nobody understands that better than Avery Monsen, a comedian / Vine celeb / really funny author out of New York. Avery’s newest creation, Rejected Emojis, puts all those preloaded icons to shame by serving up such creations as “cool pube” and “a bald man reclines on a giant slice of pizza.” We caught up with Avery the other day and tackled important subjects like smiling red ogres, emoji freedom, and the power of evasive texting.

Recently I’ve been spending most of my time on an airplane with my band, White Lung, playing shows all over the world. Things have been pretty nice, I’m not going to lie. This past weekend, we played a show in Los Angeles, then the next day got on an airplane and headed to Japan to play Fuji Rock Festival 2014. Here’s how that was.

Monday, July 28, 2014 Artsy Fartsy: Nasty Gal x WISF

Match9

It’s never good to compare yourself to others. But who said anything about comparing your favorite clothes to your favorite photos? Bianca Luini is the image guru behind Where I See Fashion, a blog that celebrates the similarities between clothing and photography. Bianca has been on our radar for quite some time, but we recently got the Milan-born fashion design student to look through some of our images. And while she was working, we snagged an interview with her, too!
