Monday, October 28, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Meet The Cult: Venus X
Our latest Shoe Cult Ambassador Venus X isn’t just a pretty face, she’s a badass businesswoman and DJ who heads up the infamous underground GHE20G0TH1K parties. She said, “In 2009, I started [GHE20G0TH1K] at a small dive bar in Bushwick, and it has grown to be a cornerstone of NYC youth culture!” To celebrate, she’s throwing an insane Halloween bash this Thursday, and she’ll also be touring with M.I.A. starting November 1 (!!!), so be sure to catch her while she’s still in town. In the meantime, check out the M.I.A.-inspired mix by GHE20G0TH1K regular Mike Q to get you through these last (long) days before All Hallows’ Eve.

Wednesday, October 16, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Meet The Cult: Eiko Hara
Another day, another Shoe Cult disciple! This morning, we’re gettin’ down with NYC DJ/singer/total babetron Eiko Hara. When she’s not mastering her less-is-more ’90s aesthetic, she contributes to Elle Japan and makes some of the sickest mixes to boot. There’s (truly!) nothing better than a fashionable girl with a great taste in tunes, so we had Eiko create the ultimate Nasty Gal playlist—and, of course, share some of her killer style tips along the way.

Wednesday, October 2, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: K-Pop by Esther Kim
Esther Kim is back! As it turns out, illustrating is not her only forte. This time around, Esther graces the NG blogosphere with a kick-ass playlist on K-Pop. Thanks to her, we now know that not all Korean pop stars are as ridiculous as Psy, and that America seriously needs to step up its game in the music video department.
Friday, September 27, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Goodbye Summer, Hello Weekend!
Some bad news hit the world this week: summer’s over. Seriously?! On the contrary, it’s the freakin’ weekend! We were particularly excited to kiss this week goodbye, so jam along to what got us through the first week of fall!
Tuesday, September 24, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Disco Ball To the Wall
I was born in Miami, rasied in the heat of the Cuban jungle, and stood out way too obviously at my New England Prep-school Homecoming. Don’t think I didn’t love it, but I was the girl dancing by myself in my way-too-tight turqouise dress and sky-high heels, loving the all-too-few David Bowie songs the Top 40 DJ played. It was with that in mind that I put together this mix—it’s got a little something for the couples grinding under the disco ball, the dancing queen breaking hearts and taking names, and the girls like me, who love the music but just can’t wait to graduate and get the f-out of there. Enjoy! -Cat
