LADY-DJ

Leigh Karl Instagram Photo 2

We’ve been in serious holiday mode as of late, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of the year than with some killer party playlists. So, we asked some of our favorite musicians to do just that. Our Lady DJ series will feature 10 straight days of curated tunes to get us in the seasonal spirit. First up: Leigh Lezark from The Misshapes. She’s a part of the NYC-based trio who created sounds for some of the biggest runway shows (think: Zac Posen, Viktor & Rolf, and Henry Holland). When Leigh isn’t throwing down some stellar beats, she models for Gap, H&M, and DKNY (just to name a few!) and works as Chanel’s beauty ambassador. Luckily, she found time to talk all-things music and fashion and created her ultimate holiday playlist just for us.

Monday, December 2, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: #MusicMonday: DiscoFunk

disco

Every Monday we send you a killer playlist straight from NGHQ!

“This playlist is my ode to all of the amazing female performers that brought the funk and tore the roof off the sucka before we even learned to hit the play buttons on our iPods. Obviously Nasty Gal is no stranger to soul music, taking it’s namesake from the eponymous Betty Davis song. All hail afros and bell-bottoms, wild dancing and racy lyrics! This is an era that represents the commencement of independence and fierce sexuality. It’s what Nasty Gal represents. It’s what were all about.  If you wanna disco tonight and every monday night, come boogie at DDM!”

Friday, November 8, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: B O S C O

bosco-11

If you were totally entranced by the catchy beats from our Shoe Cult teaser, you’re probably dying to know who the face is behind that killer single. Well, we certainly were, so we decided to track her down! B O S C O (a.k.a. Brittany Bosco) is an Atlanta-based musician who layers smooth vocals over dreamy electronic beats, and she has super cute style to boot. B O S C O and two of her friends were nice enough to take us on a tour of their Southern town (decked out in head-to-toe Nasty Gal, of course) and total awesomeness ensued.

simone-1

During the day, Simone Cookie Serrail kills it in the copywriting department here at NGHQ, but after hours she moonlights as a host at some crucial L.A. events. She just kicked off her own disco dance party every Monday at Honeycut, and she was awesome enough to share even more killer parties that we can’t miss this week. Consider this your ultimate L.A. going-out guide curated by one of the coolest girls in town. (You’re welcome.)

Monday, October 28, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Meet The Cult: Venus X

venus-x-show-cult

Our latest Shoe Cult Ambassador Venus X isn’t just a pretty face, she’s a badass businesswoman and DJ who heads up the infamous underground GHE20G0TH1K parties. She said, “In 2009, I started [GHE20G0TH1K] at a small dive bar in Bushwick, and it has grown to be a cornerstone of NYC youth culture!” To celebrate, she’s throwing an insane Halloween bash this Thursday, and she’ll also be touring with M.I.A. starting November 1 (!!!), so be sure to catch her while she’s still in town. In the meantime, check out the M.I.A.-inspired mix by GHE20G0TH1K regular Mike Q to get you through these last (long) days before All Hallows’ Eve.
