Thursday, September 5, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Shoe Cult Kool-Aid
For many of us, the first cult we ever join is the cult of fandom that hits when we discover our new favorite band. For me, that moment hit in high school when I discovered the Jesus and Mary Chain, and I’m not sure I ever full recovered (not that I wanted to, of course). So because every cult needs a soundtrack, here are a few tracks that never fail to lull me into trance, and will totally seduce you into drinking the Shoe Cult Kool-Aid. You can thank us later. -Cat
Tuesday, September 3, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: Feathers
Meet Feathers, the band behind the kick-ass song in our Shoe Cult video. Pop’s most entrancing new four-piece female band started life as the one-woman recording project of Anastasia Dimou, who left her NYC home in 2011 in pursuit of ‘space and a spark’ in Austin. She soon found inspiration in the open skies and wide plains of western Texas, where she penned a hypnotic debut record and assembled a troupe of likeminded musicians—Courtney Voss, Kathleen Carmichael and alternating members Destiny Montague and Alex Gehring.
Having released their debut album If All Here Now back in May, Feathers have gone on to tour with Little Boots and opened for Depeche Mode. As the band prepares to embark on its first West Coast tour, Nasty Gal caught up with Anastasia to talk about astrology, taking off for Austin, and the power of being alone

Tuesday, August 6, 2013 Studio Soundtracks: DJ Tamara Sky
Though Los Angeles is a city of blue skies and sunshine, it still loves the occasional trip to the dark side. And for that we turn to Tamara Sky, the dark horse DJ and producer behind Lil Death, one of the wildest parties in the City of Angels. Tamara DJ’d our second No Bummer Summer Party this past weekend, and we caught up with her for a few minutes to talk snack foods and why she likes her music like her rollercoasters.
