Tuesday, October 28, 2014 Right Now: Niia
Sporting a Nike Dri-FIT tee, black skinny jeans, and middle parted hair which falls bluntly below her angled shoulders, Niia Bertino arrives at the downtown Los Angeles photo studio looking like a model off-duty. More important than her catwalk-ready cheek and collarbones, Niia is a classically trained jazz pianist with an entrancing voice that is a soulful, haunting amalgam of Sadé and the Internet age. A bit of Old Hollywood glamour, noir mystery, and Tumblr-friendly aesthetic all elegantly packaged into a sound that is both comfortingly nostalgic and eerily distant; almost lost and longing.
