Wednesday, August 6, 2014 Right Now: Happy Birthday, Andy!
Pop art aficionados take some time out of your day to remember the greatest in the game. It’s Andy Warhol’s big 8-6 today and we think everyone needs to recognize it. Best known for reappropriating celebrity, culture and advertisement as art, Warhol is an icon to art lovers the world over. He was the founder of Interview and undoubtedly the reason we have the pop art effect on Photobooth. If you’re in LA, make your way over to MOCA in September to check out Andy Warhol: Shadows, an exhibition that presents one Warhol painting in 102 parts!
Thursday, July 31, 2014 Right Now: Five Music Videos We Are Obsessed With This Week
Even though MTV has been hijacked by teen moms and teen wolves, the art of the music video is not dead. Our favorite artists are still making them left and right; they’re just getting more creative with their execution (like Lana Del Rey, pictured above, whose strikingly simple “bride without a groom” video gives us the chills). From Slutever‘s summer fun to Mac DeMarco‘s sexy Homer Simpson situation, here are five music videos we are currently obsessing over.
Monday, July 28, 2014 Trends: Trench Toast
Have you noticed how editors talk about personal style as though getting ready was a mathematical equation? We throw terms around like “cost per wear”, and “fashematics” i.e. an A-line skirt + knee-high boots = the Mod look. There’s also the faithful “top five” wardrobe essentials, a list to live and die by. Everyone has a top five, and often everyone ends up having the same top five: a classic white shirt, a well cut pair of jeans, an LBD, brogues, and of course, a trench coat. A trench coat always makes the cut.

Even though MTV has been hijacked by teen moms and teen wolves, the art of the music video is not dead. Our favorite artists are still making them left and right; they’re just getting more creative with their execution (like Bleached, pictured above, who took the VHS cable access show concept and made it their own). From Lily Allen‘s giddy Glastonbury adventure to Chelsea Wolfe‘s gothic glory, here are five music videos we are currently obsessing over.
Wednesday, July 23, 2014 Lessons From The Pros: Bird Of Paradise
It’s easy to forget how dumb and gross it is living in the city when summer rolls around and nobody’s wearing pants, let alone ample butt coverage (being that this year, the hemlines are rising well above cleavage crescent in the jorts realm). Skin is a beautiful thing, especially when you get to paint it all fancy and show it off.
In possibly the first time for me that a beauty look has been inspired by a Discovery Channel documentary on Netflix, I’m taking a feather (or petal?) from our winged brethren, the bird of paradise. Funny how it’s generally the males in nature who get all the pretty colors to dance-hop around and woo their future baby-mamas. Not to delve into cross-dressing here, I see no problem following suit with these harbingers of tropical paradisco. Here’s a look inspired by the flower or the animal—you pick.
