Wednesday, June 25, 2014 Role Model: #GIRLBOSS: ROSSON CROW
Artist Rosson Crow paints big, and thinks even bigger. Her large-scale artworks are drenched in color, bursting with energy, and vibrant with character and life…kinda like the artist herself.
In today’s Portrait of a #GIRLBOSS, Rosson talks about growing up in Texas, making art in New York, and why she listens to a lot of rap music while she works. She also discusses some of the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry, and tells us why she’s all for making bad paintings. After all, says Rosson, ”mistakes can be good” so long as you learn something from them. Spoken like a true #GIRLBOSS.
Did you see the last three #GIRLBOSS portraits? Go watch ‘em all now!
Here some of Rosson’s art in case you are not familiar with her incredible work.
Tuesday, June 24, 2014 Role Model: Gals Of Summer: Chanel Castaneda
Chanel Castaneda is a girl who knows how to have fun. Not just in the party sense of the word (although she certainly has that bit down), but in seemingly every aspect of her life. The petite Los Angeles native spends her time pal-ing around with some of our favorite It-girls, including Brooke Candy, Venus X, and stylist Alexis Knox. She is an actress, a model, and a muse, and is best known for her unique and borderline cartoonish take on style: think giant platforms, bleached Barbie hair (currently dyed a dusty pink), and bold, sexy fashion. Check out some of our favorite party snaps of Miss Chanel below.
Monday, June 23, 2014 Role Model: #GIRLBOSS: JEN VITAGLIANO
Jennifer’s New York City restaurant The Musket Room has already racked up rave reviews and a Michelin star; not bad for an intimate neighborhood spot that has barely been open a year. (It must run in the family, as Jennifer’s twin, stylist Nicole Vitagliano is definitely a #GIRLBOSS in her own right). In her Portrait of a #GIRLBOSS video, Jennifer talks about the importance of working with people you trust, the reality of getting your hands dirty, and why it’s totally OK to talk to yourself, all day long. (Glad to know we’re not the only ones.)
Aspiring restaurant-owners, foodies, and #GIRLBOSSes in the making: watch and learn!
Friday, June 20, 2014 Role Model: Ode To Lana
“Are you sick, or just a lesbian?” pried the USC sorority girl washing her hands next to me, upon first glance at my newly shaved head. This was a whole bunch of years ago, but when I’m back in the vicinity of my alma mater for the sold out Lana Del Rey show at The Shrine Auditorium, it all comes back to me. Perfect tens and misfits are still the theme of the night.
Thursday, June 19, 2014 Bringin’ It Back: Bandits in Bandeaus
There really should be a fan club that celebrates what Richard Prince and Abbey Lee created for Pop in 2010. If there isn’t, then I will make one and text all of you about it. It’s been four years since the editorial came out, but the leather-loaded images still make me want to ride a bike or buy a gun holster or both. Lucky for all of us, we just rounded up enough Western wear to last us until the cows come home.
