Ingrid Kesa Invites Us Into Seala’s World

Hello-Tomorrow-Gif

Seala1

Seala Loko is one of those girls you can’t help but be drawn towards. She answers the door wearing gold Comme des Garçons ballet flats borrowed from her housemate, a t-shirt, Marle tracksuit shorts, and a big, bright smile. Effortless, fresh-faced and magnetizing, it’s no surprise that Seala’s become something of an internet icon, with her Tumblr ask box constantly being flooded with questions about her personal style. When she painted boobs onto an old t-shirt and shared a photo on Instagram, people even asked where they could buy such an item.

A hippie at heart, Seala had all the comforts of a coastal upbringing in Byron Bay before moving to Melbourne a few years ago to study acting and undertake other creative endeavors, including modeling for local designer store Pet Shop Girls.

Although we previously only knew Seala from her online presence, in no time we were drinking tea, sitting on her bedroom floor, talking about boys, and playing dress up: she’s just that kind of girl.

Odd Future’s Sarah Parker

DSC_0047

The first time I met Sarah Parker, the women’s designer for Odd Future’s clothing line, she was working in the retail store on Fairfax wearing a combo of vintage denim, a baby tee, plastic choker and had her dog on her arm. The first time I saw her DJ, she was wearing a baseball jersey and kitten heels with boa feathers. I’ve never seen her not smiling or just stoked on life.

Last week, I met up with Sarah at her house in Hollywood—an adorable yellow cottage that she shares with her boyfriend, Odd Future’s Left Brain—and we drove with her girls to Venice Beach in her ’86 Dodge 600 turbo convertible. Sarah cruises around like the biggest boss bitch I have ever witnessed (thanks, Waze) and her trap beats kept everyone dancing in their seats with the top was down on the freeway. I don’t know how anyone could ever not love her. Here are some shots I took, and Sarah in her own words. —Silke Labson

Kitty Shades

Meet Nicole, our PR Assistant. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Nicole’s our favorite Valley girl. She ascribes to a healthy regimen of leather jackets, skater skirts and platforms, with an extensive collection of  metal accessories to match. We followed her for a week and got the scoop on hangover spots, witty t-shirts and headwear that’s out of this world.

Ashley, Our Senior Stylist and Resident Boho Babe

Not only is Ashley Glorioso our Senior Stylist, but she’s also the fashion genius behind Purse ‘N Boots, a blog where she chronicles her own outfits and all the gorgeous lookbooks she styles in a voice that’s so down-to-earth that it’s impossible not to love her personality as much as you love her clothes. In the office, Ashley is our resident boho babe, with a massive collection of boots (no surprise there) and an enviable talent for finding vintage treasures. Here, she lets us peek inside her sun-filled apartment and at her racks-on-racks of clothes, plus talks dogs and why, when it comes to sandals, it’s go gladiator or go home.

Houman, The Guy We Want To Trade Closets With

Left: Ann Demeulemeester hat, Alexander Wang knit, COS leather pants; Right: Vintage tank, Yohji Yamamoto pants, Marni sandals, Blackout Circle Shades

It’s impossible not to stop and smile when we spot our glamorous Sample Coordinator running around the office in high-waist leather skinnies, stopping to chat with everyone he passes along the way. Houman’s minimal-meets-maximal style is a force to be reckoned with, and is endlessly inspiring to all the girls and guys at Nasty Gal HQ. Though he may look like the striking love child of Salvador Dali and Diana Vreeland, he’s most influenced by “the sleek, tailored look of the mod era, combined with the experimental looks and shapes of the ’80s and the simple, loose cuts of the early ’90s.” In short, prepare to be wowed.

Nicki – Sit Front Row With The First Face We See Every Morning!

Harness Dress, Spike Platform Boot, Earrings from Melrose Trading Post, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red

Meet Nicki, the gorgeous girl that greets everyone who walks through the doors of Nasty Gal HQ. Outside of the office, she can usually be found documenting her goth-meets-’90s rock style on her blog, Tropic Of Unicorn. Influenced most by music and culture, she says, “I would love to look like a girl who could be in a Wong Kar Wai film. In my opinion, the sexiest girl would be all the bitchin’, hilarious aspects of Marla Singer from Fight Club and the sweet, coy, vulnerable aspects of Kim from Edward Scissorhands. I love the dark aesthetic, but I have a really positive outlook on things. My mantra: Everything always happens for the best, though you might not realize it at the time.”

Simone, Our Merchandising Assistant

Quilted Moto Jacket, thrifted beaded dress and collar necklace

With a killer head of curls and (always) towering heels, it’s impossible not to look at Simone as she breezes through the office to help our shoe buyer take your closet to another level. Though Simone’s style can go from ’60s chic to crazy disco queen depending on her mood, she’s almost always spotted in head-to-toe black or white with an electric jolt of color thrown into the mix.

What inspires her the most? “Working at Nasty Gal has really impelled me to step up my fashion game. Since I have such a bi-polar sense of style, literally everyone that works here has made an impression on my wardrobe. And while I love buying new shoes and denim, I’ll always be a die-hard fan of vintage clothing. I love the idea that there aren’t a million other people walking around with a dress that I’m wearing. Since I can’t quite afford Missoni and Chanel (YET), vintage has been the best way to stand apart.”

Christina, Our Buying Director & Very First Employee

Long Night Blazer, vintage tee, Bitching & Junkfood cutoffs, Orion Studded Boot, Karen Walker sunglasses

Meet Christina, our Buying Director and Nasty Gal’s very first employee. Sophia brought her on board in 2008 right after leaving eBay to help out with everything from buying to assisting on photo shoots. As she puts it, “When I think about bobbing around the first office space with Sophia to where we are now, it’s pretty wild and very special for me.”
