Friday, July 6, 2012 A Week With: Houman, The Guy We Want To Trade Closets With

Left: Ann Demeulemeester hat, Alexander Wang knit, COS leather pants; Right: Vintage tank, Yohji Yamamoto pants, Marni sandals, Blackout Circle Shades

It’s impossible not to stop and smile when we spot our glamorous Sample Coordinator running around the office in high-waist leather skinnies, stopping to chat with everyone he passes along the way. Houman’s minimal-meets-maximal style is a force to be reckoned with, and is endlessly inspiring to all the girls and guys at Nasty Gal HQ. Though he may look like the striking love child of Salvador Dali and Diana Vreeland, he’s most influenced by “the sleek, tailored look of the mod era, combined with the experimental looks and shapes of the ’80s and the simple, loose cuts of the early ’90s.” In short, prepare to be wowed.

Thursday, June 21, 2012 A Week With: Nicki – Sit Front Row With The First Face We See Every Morning!

Harness Dress, Spike Platform Boot, Earrings from Melrose Trading Post, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red

Meet Nicki, the gorgeous girl that greets everyone who walks through the doors of Nasty Gal HQ. Outside of the office, she can usually be found documenting her goth-meets-’90s rock style on her blog, Tropic Of Unicorn. Influenced most by music and culture, she says, “I would love to look like a girl who could be in a Wong Kar Wai film. In my opinion, the sexiest girl would be all the bitchin’, hilarious aspects of Marla Singer from Fight Club and the sweet, coy, vulnerable aspects of Kim from Edward Scissorhands. I love the dark aesthetic, but I have a really positive outlook on things. My mantra: Everything always happens for the best, though you might not realize it at the time.”

Thursday, June 7, 2012 A Week With: Simone, Our Merchandising Assistant

Quilted Moto Jacket, thrifted beaded dress and collar necklace

With a killer head of curls and (always) towering heels, it’s impossible not to look at Simone as she breezes through the office to help our shoe buyer take your closet to another level. Though Simone’s style can go from ’60s chic to crazy disco queen depending on her mood, she’s almost always spotted in head-to-toe black or white with an electric jolt of color thrown into the mix.

What inspires her the most? “Working at Nasty Gal has really impelled me to step up my fashion game. Since I have such a bi-polar sense of style, literally everyone that works here has made an impression on my wardrobe. And while I love buying new shoes and denim, I’ll always be a die-hard fan of vintage clothing. I love the idea that there aren’t a million other people walking around with a dress that I’m wearing. Since I can’t quite afford Missoni and Chanel (YET), vintage has been the best way to stand apart.”

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 A Week With: Christina, Our Buying Director & Very First Employee

Long Night Blazer, vintage tee, Bitching & Junkfood cutoffs, Orion Studded Boot, Karen Walker sunglasses

Meet Christina, our Buying Director and Nasty Gal’s very first employee. Sophia brought her on board in 2008 right after leaving eBay to help out with everything from buying to assisting on photo shoots. As she puts it, “When I think about bobbing around the first office space with Sophia to where we are now, it’s pretty wild and very special for me.”

Friday, May 11, 2012 A Week With: Stacey, Stylist and Makeup Artist Extraordinaire

Vintage dress, Robert Clergerie wedges, Amish hat from eBay

Meet Stacey, our striking stylist, makeup artist and hot mama-to-be. High fashion from the late ’70s to today, architectural shapes and music serve as her biggest style influences. She’ll hear a song and have to live out the look for weeks until she comes across a film or album that changes her look from head-to-toe. After finding out she was pregnant, her first thought was, “My look will be sexy ’90s supermodel who got knocked up and wears her little Versace and Alaia dresses with a moto jacket”, but Stacey also loves wearing vintage dresses, overalls and jumpers with a lot of volume instead of turning to classic maternity clothes. As she sums up her style, “My favorite thing in life is to be surprised by inspiration that sneaks up on me, whether from watching a YouTube clip or seeing a cool girl on the street.”
