5 Women on Why International Women’s Day is Important

From celebrating women all over the world to shining light on the femme experience.

Some of our fave gals came together at Nasty Gal HQ to talk all things International Women’s Day and share their perspectives on the femme experience. Every day is an opportunity to lift other women up and educate ourselves on the societal issues that are still being fought for today. But IWD is an opportunity to step it up even more. For me, it’s a day that I can’t help but check in on the work I’ve been doing and evaluate how I can do more. It’s a day for us to tap in with the worldwide community of womxn and allies that deserve the support and celebration.

Q: Why is International Women’s Day important to you?

A: International Women’s Day is important because it’s a reminder to take a day to really sit back and acknowledge all of the inspiring and hard working women there are in the world. I think so often we get caught up in our day to day lives and forget to give credit where credit is due.

Q: When you think of badass women– who comes to mind?

A: I think of my mom. My mom is a total badass, and raised my sister and I to be so strong (sometimes maybe a little too strong… sorry for the occasional attitude Mama Masi!) My mom is the most supportive, strong, beautiful woman I have ever known. She never once has made me feel like my dreams or passions are not completely within reach.

Women are dynamic creatures who have been underestimated for centuries. We have spirit and a connectivity that is divine and our  stories need to be told, especially women of color and transwomen. They are the most overlooked and under represented.
