Saga’s Sweetness: 4th of July

saga 4 saga 3

It’s all red, white and blueberries at Nasty Gal HQ. Our assistant vintage buyer (and resident pastry chef) Saga is known for whipping up gorgeous and insanely tasty treats, so we asked her to make something that’s as pretty as it is patriotic. Bonus: This is super easy and will earn you way more accolades than a boring old pan of brownies. Now bring on the BBQs!

What You’ll Need:

One basket of fresh strawberries; one basket of fresh blueberries; one pint of heavy whipping cream; two tablespoons of granulated sugar; six jars for housing your creation; one piping bag (if you’re into it).

Step 1: Wash and dry the berries (and munch on a few of them!)

Step 2: Dice the strawberries and put them into a bowl. Keep a few slices un-diced for the star decorations.

Step 3: Once you’ve diced the strawberries, whip one pint of heavy whipping cream to soft peaks.

Step 4: Add in two tablespoons of granulated sugar and then whip everything together to medium peaks. If you over whip you can always mix in more whipping cream!

Step 5: Put the whipped cream in a piping bag. You can pour it in without the piping bag, but it just makes things easier (and cleaner)!

Step 6: Once in the bag, pipe one layer of whipping cream at the bottom of the jar.

Step 7: Add a layer of berries (your choice, depending on your preferred pattern). After you’re done with the first layer, pipe another layer of whipped cream! Continue to alternate berries and whipped cream.

Step 8: Top off with a layer of berries and your strawberry star decorations!

Be creative with your decor. Add a cute themed ribbon around the jar or some firework toothpicks!
