Don’t ask me how and when this happened, but I woke up one morning and spring was here with summer fast-approaching. Crazy, right? Now that I’m peeling back some layers and pants are borderline optional (um, within reason), I’ve completely submitted to the laid back California archetype: sunroof open, KDAY blasting (L.A.’s classic hip-hop radio station), shades dark, and outfit? Casual.

The foundation is the perfect tank: something comfy, cropped and with armholes that hang low. I seriously suggest stockpiling up on Evil Twin’s perfect cotton Raw Cut Tank and Brandy & Melville’s Dafne Tank in white and black, or taking scissor to your own tanks. They’ll take you pretty much anywhere and they’re the ultimate pit-stain fix. Real talk.

I wear mine with overalls, short shorts, or – when I need to dress it up – a leather version (like this one from Gypsy Junkies) with a maxi skirt at night with a neon bra underneath while throwing back Coronas with Gwen Stefani. Except that last part takes place purely in my head.
