Lately I’ve been trying to figure out what my actual inspiration for my spring wardrobe is. Trends for this season are all across the map, the most notable being color blocking and mixed prints. I like to interpret trends in my own way, and this spring I have decided to make it all fall under the category of femininity. Yes, it is time to embrace your inner girl power and dress like a lady! I, for one, am always the one to be pro-skinny jeans, collared shirt and leather boots, and always end up looking like one of my favorite band members. But finally I have realized that maybe I should start embracing my femininity in order to flat out just look cute!

First, I plan on channeling two of my favorite ladies from the 1960s, Jane Birkin and Françoise Hardy.  Birkin and Hardy both were very famous in the Sixties due to their effortlessly chic Parisian style.  From the slim silhouettes they’d wear to the simple fringe and cat eye beauty ensemble, both of these women sort of form the foundation for what I like to wear on a regular basis.

Springtime always makes us dig out our ditsy floral mini dresses a lá Courtney Love, but this season I’m liking the other direction that florals are going in – the ’60s flower power vibe.  Many may be sick of the Lana Del Ray flower crown trend by now, but don’t be! They can be added to any outfit to achieve ultimate femininity. They’re girly and a good alternate to just a chiffon scarf in your hair. Another thing I dig about wearing more girly pieces is that they can sometimes come off as childish, in a good way! For example, Peter Pan collars with lace detailing or beading are necessary in my closet, paying more homage to the ’60s meets ’90s vibe of my inspiration boards.

(Oyster Mag, Punk Spuds, Top Notch Bitch, Girls & Guns,

Take what we’ve learned from women like Jane Birkin and Françoise Hardy and put your own twist on dressing more feminine. This spring I invite you to come with me on my quest to dress like a girl and go outside in your finest girly garb. Think bright neon colors, embellishment, and a whole lot of prints!

When she isn’t running back and forth between her studies to attend concerts and music festivals, Maddie Sensibile spends most of her time in her hometown of Los Angeles, finding the coolest editorials to post on her fashion blog, Obsessee, searching for new nail art, and buying too many pairs of Chelsea boots.
