If you don’t already know about Allie Teilz, you’ll definitely want to remember her name. Sure, she’s a mega babetron will killer style to boot, but she’s also a part of L.A. DJ collective The Embassy and has
cameos lead parts in some seriously stellar music videos for the Silversun Pickups and Chateau Marmont. Allie was kind enough to make us a playlist and explain the brilliance behind it. Check it ouuuut!
Allie Teilz, Lost Angeles.
Tell us the inspiration behind the playlist you created:
Driving through the city at night with the windows down. Being in love. Songs that flow through your veins—that move your limbs and excite your soul. Songs to transform any location into a dance floor. Music to elevate your mood.
How would you describe your sound?
Inclusive, sexy, funky, weird. I don’t love anything like I love hip-hop and/or a Nile Rodgers guitar riff.
How did you end up becoming a DJ?
Playlists have always been my diary, and music was my first and greatest love. When I got older and built my record collection, I realized I could do what I loved for a living. For as long as I can remember, I would be by the stereo learning how to connect with people through music at social gatherings. When I moved to LA from NY, I joined The Embassy—a DJ collective founded by Chris Holmes—which allowed me to commit to the nightlife world without compromising my taste.
What’s your go-to song to get the party started?
“Try Again” by Aaliyah.
Any tips for aspiring DJs?
Take the time to educate yourself and develop your own unique taste. Learn from the greats and stay in touch with the times. Be firm in your knowledge and able to read the crowd. Get people dancing, but also open their minds to different sounds and emotions.
