It’s never good to compare yourself to others. But who said anything about comparing your favorite clothes to your favorite photos? Bianca Luini is the image guru behind Where I See Fashion, a blog that celebrates the similarities between clothing and photography. Bianca has been on our radar for quite some time, but we recently got the Milan-born fashion design student to look through some of our images. And while she was working, we snagged an interview with her, too!

Where are you from? Where are you living now?

I am from Italy, I was born and raised in Milan and I’m still living here! What I like the most about Milan is that it’s not only one of the most important cities in the world when it comes to fashion, but it’s also where my family and friends live. Everything and everyone I love is here and I’m very grateful for this, I feel like it’s the city I belong in.

You’re a design student, right? What do you want to do in the future?

Yes, I am a fashion design student and I’m going to graduate in September! Right now I would say I’d love to become a fashion photographer or a fashion editor; I’ve always loved fashion magazines and it would be amazing to be part of that world.

Tell us about Where I See Fashion! How did it start?

The idea behind my blog came while I was doing image research for a uni project, when by chance I saw two pictures near each other and I suddenly noticed they were related somehow. Since then I couldn’t stop noticing similarities in other pictures all over the Internet. I kept saving new photos and at a certain point I realized I had collected quite a few images! I needed to organize them somehow and I tried by pairing them. I really liked the result so I decided to start a new blog to share them. This is how Where I See Fashion was born!

Match6

You find the most amazing images to use for your side-by-side photos. What’s your process of finding both the fashion images and the ones to compare them to?

The images I use are 99% from tumblr. I’m constantly inspired by the photos I find there and I save a lot of them every day! I have built a sort of personal archive where I keep everything I find beautiful and interesting, and I use this archive to create my matches. This is a process that can take a second or weeks, sometimes I’m lucky enough to find two photos at the same time that perfectly go together but usually I find the perfect pair after a few days. It just kind of happens when it’s the right time!

What is your Internet guilty pleasure?

I spend way too much time on tumblr, even when I have a lot of other important things to do. But I just can’t help it! It’s such a wonderful community, a place where you are completely free to share the things you love and your ideas, it’s incredibly inspiring.

Match5

It’s important to listen to music when you’re combing through the Internet. What are your favorite songs right now?

At the moment I am obsessed with Rather Be by Clean Bandit, this song always puts me in a good mood, I swear I’ve been listening to it on repeat for days!

Describe your personal style. Do you wear the clothes you use in your pictures? Do those clothes influence your personal style?

Oh well, there’s a part of me that wants to wear only t-shirts, jeans and sneakers, and the other part just wants to wear elegant dresses and fancy shoes. Usually the first part wins, but that’s also because I have to go to university every day and I need to be comfortable. I guess I still have to figure out what my style is!

Match3

What is your life motto?

There’s this quote that I absolutely love: “if your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough.” It’s important to keep trying to follow our dreams even if it can be scary sometimes, because the best things happen when you have to step out of your comfort zone. It’s hard, but it’ll be worth it!

Name one thing you hate a lot.

Spiders. They terrify me!

Match2

What’s next for Where I See Fashion?

To this day I still can’t believe how far WISF has gone. My dream has always been to inspire people and I still find it incredible that it’s actually happening, I started the blog almost like it was nothing and thinking about this now drives me a little crazy. I really have no idea what to expect from the future right now, anything could happen!
