Meet Jazzlyn!

OK, so we’re just a little jealous of Jazzlyn Marae. Sure, she’s a great model (and one of our collective faves), but she seemingly has just about everything else on lock, too. Besides modeling, Jazzlyn is also a singer, dancer, and actor. She’s constantly working and posting videos to her YouTube account—then jetting off for a photoshoot. She’s also lightning fast on email. She answered a few of our questions about her model life as she was on her way to Miami. Le sigh.

Jazz or Jazzy

I’m originally from:

Portland, Oregon, but I moved to California when I was six.

Ideal summer day:

Getting a group of friends together and going to the beach, playing in the water, and then when it starts to get dark, starting a bonfire!  Love that!

What’s it like living in Jazzlyn’s world? Give us the inside scoop.

It’s a lot of fun. It’s also a lot of work. I sing, act, dance, and model so it keeps me super busy. I get up early and go to the gym with my Dad.  If I don’t have a shoot, I am practicing guitar, piano, and voice. I take vocal lessons and random dance classes.  I am recording original songs and covers for YouTube, studying scripts for upcoming auditions, and in between I am having fun with friends. [Ed’s note: Whew!] We like to eat (well I do, my friends probably just appease me), so we hit local spots like Kitchen 24, Crave, and Urth Cafe. I get to travel places like Miami, The Bahamas amd New York. I would say living in Jazzlyn’s world is pretty sweet!

What’s the best piece of vintage that you own?

I would have to say the best piece of vintage I own is a Levi’s jacket that was my Mom’s when she was my age.  She had it altered a little and gave it to me for Christmas.  I am sure to hand it down to my kid one day.

What are your plans for the 4th of July?

No plans as of yet, but I will be in Miami where I have friends, so I am sure I can find something to get into!  Any takers!?

How did you become interested in music?

I have always been a singer.  Really.  When I was three I almost got kicked out of a religious preschool for singing Warren G and Nate Dogg’s “Annie Mae.”  They started singing “one two buckle my shoe”  and that was the only version I knew. I don’t show my emotions very often and music has been a way for me to do that.

Have you ever met anyone who had you truly starstruck?

Not yet. Chris Brown was close, but not quite. Now, if you have the chance to introduce me to Drake…well then you will see some stars poppin’ out of my eyes!

What were you like as a little kid?

Naughty! I would make up elaborate stories and when I was about to really get in trouble I would say “It’s not lying…. it’s called aaaaacting!” I liked to do things my way.

What’s a beauty product that you can’t live without?

Just one? Really? Cocoa butter for my lips. I use Palmer’s cocoa butter stick. I can not stand when my lips are dry. Also, facial wipes (I hate to have make up on after a shoot).

Where do you see yourself in five years? In 10?

In five years my plan is to be well established in the music industry; known as a talented (not just popular) singer and performer. Hopefully by then I will also be out of school. I graduated from high school a year early and thought I was done, but my parents had other plans for me, so now I am a college student. In 10 years, I would like to be moving on to other opportunities. I want to leave my options open.
