Wednesday, October 10, 2012 Lessons From The Pros: Light Bright
It’s no secret that color’s one of our BFFs, but all-over turquoise on an outfit is a whole other set of rules from all-over turquoise on the eye. How to get the bright right? We asked makeup artist Ashleigh Lauer for a how-to on two fresh looks.
For a wicked cat eye that makes no apologies, first prime eyelid to even out skin tone and to help your eye makeup last all day without creasing. Next, take an angled brush and create a thin line from inner to outer eye. Keep building the line to desired thickness, and then at the outer corner take your brush at an angle to flip out and make a point for your cat eye. (I use a liquid liner from MAC.)
For the second colorful look, a take on the traditional heavy smokey eye, I used a synthetic eyeshadow blender brush and a creme eyeshadow. It’s so easy! Just keep blending in the same shape as you did the cat eye look, but soften the edges & extend past the outer eye to connect to bottom liner. (I used a shadow from Shiseido.)
Once you get the shape you like, take a powder eyeshadow in a similar color and press on top of the creme to intensify the color and really make it pop. Same goes for the cat eye–if you want to set it to make sure it’ll really stay, take a clean eyeshadow brush dipped in a little translucent powder and tap over liner to give it lasting power.
There are endless color combinations for these looks as well! Play around with layering colors or using two different colors for the top and bottom lines. Keep experimenting and let your palette run wild!
