Staff Picks: Chiara Mingione, Junior Copywriter

Our current must-haves, according to the boss babes of Nasty Gal HQ.

Rosemary Rose Denim Jacket

Our L.A.-based junior copywriter, Chiara Mingione writes witty bangers in her sleep—seriously, have you seen our product pages?—and can describe every type of sleeve to a T on the fly (in case you didn’t know, there are a ton). The New York transplant has also mastered that perfect blend of East and West Coast style, with her killer collection of perfectly worn-in denim jackets and black leather boots. We spent an afternoon hitting up her stomping grounds to get a closer look.

I Don’t Flare Top

“Since I don’t drive, I spend a lot of time walking and taking the train.  I base my style around that because you can’t really wear extravagant things when you’re always on your feet. People give me such strange looks for not owning a car, but it’s so convenient. Growing up, my mom wouldn’t let me wear open-toe shoes on the train going to school because the subway’s pretty gross, so I wear boots constantly. I also wear one-pieces and jumpsuits all the time because they’re so easy, and they make you feel put-together when you’re not.”

“If there’s one thing I miss most about my home, it’s probably the endless amount of delis. I think New Yorkers take them for granted. Here, you don’t go get a bagel, you get a juice. But Canter’s fills that void. The black and white cookies there are to die for, by the way. My go-to piece for a casual trip like this is an oversized, light wash denim jacket. I wear denim jackets all the time because they’re easy and perfect for L.A. weather.”

Square to Dance DressCross Train Sneaker

“I drink espresso every morning, and Commissary on Sunset is my go-to coffee shop. I love gingham because it makes you feel like you’re going to a picnic at any point in time. I also have the same collection of white sneakers and pair them with everything. My style isn’t super feminine, so I’ll often wear them with girlier pieces, like this dress, to make an outfit more casual (and walkable!).”
