We know basics can be, well, basic, but we found three L.A. stylists who proved they can be anything but. Ashley Charbonneau, Djuna Bel, and Ashley Glorioso let us into their West Coast digs and showed us how to mix Nasty Gal pieces into their own (super stellar) wardrobe.
Ashley Charbonneau, known for her on-point styling for NYLON, Rag & Bone, and LADYGUNN magazine, layered a crisp white tee under a lapeled vest to make it wearable for every day. “I love the contrast that comes with pairing broken-in tees with structured pieces.”
Djuna Bel has done some killer editorial spreads for i-D, Elle, Flaunt, and L’Uomo Vogue (remember that insane Kelly Osbourne LoveCat shoot? Yeah, she did that too.)–just to name a few–and styled kick ass campaigns for Nike, Wrangler and Adidas. Here, she took a white tee and paired it with cuffed jeans and a slouchy leather jacket. “A classic tee shouldn’t need anything more than jeans.”
Our own Nasty Gal stylist, Ashley Glorioso, is known for her super layered, rock ‘n’ roll-meets-boho look, which she documents (in extreme detail!) on her fashion blog Purse ‘n Boots. She paired a loose tank with a criss-cross bra to play up her basic top. “I was aiming for not-so-basic. The plain tank dresses down my fancy lace skirt.”
