From walking the catwalks for Tom Ford, Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren, to posing in rollerblades while balancing a tray of china for French Vogue, major model-of-the-moment Jasmine Tookes is a Nasty Gal of many talents. She even makes our sizzling new spring looks even hotter! What’s not to love?! We got the down-low on just what makes our latest style crush tick…
Hi Jasmine! You’re originally from California – are you still based there? What do you love about it most?
Yes, I’m from Huntington Beach, CA. I don’t currently live there, I moved to NYC around four years ago. I love and miss the beach the most!
Growing up, what did you dream of doing?
I knew I wanted to be in this industry whether it was hair, makeup, photography or modeling. I love it all. I was always putting on fashion shows and doing photo shoots with my mom, it was definitely something I dreamed of doing. My mom is a celebrity stylist, so throughout my childhood I was always on sets with her and she was always told me that I should get into modeling. A few years down the line, I graduated high school, moved to NYC and signed with IMG.
You’ve worked with some incredible photographers and stylists – what have been some of the best wildest experiences you’ve had?
I feel very blessed that I have had the opportunity to work with incredible stylists and photographers. One of the craziest experiences I’ve had was shooting French Vogue on roller blades while carrying a tray stacked with Versace china! Two of the best, most memorable experiences I’ve had were working with Steven Meisel and Peter Lindbergh.
You’ve become known as one of the hottest new faces of 2013 – why do you think your look has made such an impact?
I think my look has an effect on people because they can never really figure out my ethnicity – I get all kinds of things!! Ethopian, Indian, Somalian, it goes on forever! I am actually African American, Caucasian, Brazilian & West Indian.
We love your scorching Nasty Gal shoot! What are some your favorite pieces from the collection?
It was such a fun shoot! I loved all of the clothes, especially the one-piece bathing suit with the cut out in the center. Loved it!!
What’s been your 2013 soundtrack so far?
Rihanna! I love her new album. “Stay” is my favorite song.
Have you always been into fashion – how your own style changed over the years?
I’ve always had an interest in fashion, I think because my mom is a stylist I got it from her. My style has definitely changed since being a model because now I am exposed to such high-end designers. A lot of the time after I do a show, I’ll remember certain pieces I liked and go out and purchase them when they are in the stores.
Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?
Spend more time with my family. It’s hard always being so busy.
What exciting upcoming projects are on the cards for 2013?
You’ll have to wait and see!
