This week, Shoe Cult is rising and raging in NYC. We held an open call model casting in Washington Square Park, swarmed the city with a few surprise gift card giveaways, and hit up a few fashion week parties to capture the stylish throngs. We’re here all week folks (literally), so this is the first of many dispatches you can expect as we recruit Cult members everywhere we go.
The Downtown Standard is our go-to spot. A couple weeks ago, we were having a staff meeting and playing ping pong on the second floor. This past weekend, we climbed a few steps and threw ourselves a post-Independence-Day rooftop fiesta. It was the first in our series of No Bummer Summer pool parties, so be sure to check back as the summer heats up!
Michelle Ryu of Wicked Tides proves that even in the summer heat, all a girl really needs is the perfect black dress. She shows just enough skin in our Night Curve Maxi paired with an olive fedora, layers on layers of necklaces and a quilted clutch we’ve gotta get our hands on. If only we could raid her accessories stash…swoon.
For Chanel’s 2014 Resort show in Singapore, makeup artist Peter Phillips created this two-toned black and turquoise cat-eye that, in our minds, evoked equal parts hell-raising pirate and tranquil turquoise seas. We thought it was the perfect punk-yet-still-pretty look for summer, so we got our own makeup artist, Stacey Nishimoto, to recreate it on Sophia. According to Stacey, the end goal is a clean top, and blended bottom—an architectural black line softened by a blue haze. Here are her steps!
True fact: We never met a color we didn’t like. But, even we have to admit, there’s something special about these baby blues. No matter if we’re slouching around in a pair of boyfriends or getting some extra help slithering into those vintage Jordaches a lá Dazed and Confused, we will forever dig our dungarees.
Don’t mess with Angie Torres. The Dominican stunner may have exotic looks but she’s all-American (Texas-bred to be exact) and still proudly sports her cowboy boots when she’s not modeling barely there bikinis and body-cons. Somehow we were able to stop staring at her mile-long legs (ok, temporarily stop staring) and get some insight on her ultimate wishes and the pickup line she’ll actually go for.
