LOVE 37

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 A Week With: Christina, Our Buying Director & Very First Employee

Long Night Blazer, vintage tee, Bitching & Junkfood cutoffs, Orion Studded Boot, Karen Walker sunglasses

Meet Christina, our Buying Director and Nasty Gal’s very first employee. Sophia brought her on board in 2008 right after leaving eBay to help out with everything from buying to assisting on photo shoots. As she puts it, “When I think about bobbing around the first office space with Sophia to where we are now, it’s pretty wild and very special for me.”

As for her style, she’s usually spotted around the office pulling off the perfect mix of girly and grunge – whether it’s in a ’90s floral sundress with combat boots or a threadbare vintage tee with a skater skirt. What inspires her most? “My mom. When I was a kid, she was always running around but still managed to look like a babe. I  also love unexpected pops of color, edgy details and vintage influences. I’ve realized my haircut can easily go from a ’50s swingy bob to a ’90s riot grrl, so I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with that.”

“I permanently borrowed this tattered Bon Jovi tour tee from one of our vintage racks years ago, and it’s since become my favorite. This is my go-to outfit for anything from the office to weekend errands.”

Levi’s denim top, vintage skinnies

“It’s my ode to the Canadian tuxedo.”

Electric Lace Dress, MAC Morange lipstick

“I’ve been really into wearing high necklines since I cut my hair off, so I love this dress. It’s perfect for my fantasy dinner party. I knew I had to have these dining chairs as soon as I spotted them. The color reminds me of these awesome old Pontiacs my boyfriend and I saw on the streets when we were visiting Cuba.”

Olie Crochet Dress, Wool Trilby Hat, Rum Moto Boots, DIY necklace made from a broken keychain

“I love mixing different eras when getting dressed – like a ’70s hat, ’60s shift dress, and ’90s moto boots – to make vintage and vintage-inspired pieces look fresh and modern.”

Nasty Gal vintage looped fringe knit, Finders Keepers romper

“This is my ‘go anywhere, do anything’ outfit. I actually just wore it from work straight to the airport to visit my boyfriend  Carlos in Oakland, then out for dinner and ice cream.”
