Left: Ann Demeulemeester hat, Alexander Wang knit, COS leather pants; Right: Vintage tank, Yohji Yamamoto pants, Marni sandals, Blackout Circle Shades

It’s impossible not to stop and smile when we spot our glamorous Sample Coordinator running around the office in high-waist leather skinnies, stopping to chat with everyone he passes along the way. Houman’s minimal-meets-maximal style is a force to be reckoned with, and is endlessly inspiring to all the girls and guys at Nasty Gal HQ. Though he may look like the striking love child of Salvador Dali and Diana Vreeland, he’s most influenced by “the sleek, tailored look of the mod era, combined with the experimental looks and shapes of the ’80s and the simple, loose cuts of the early ’90s.” In short, prepare to be wowed.

“I always have to find a balance. If I’m wearing something dramatic or voluminous, I’ll pair it with streamlined pieces.”

Yohji Yamamoto kimono top and pants, vintage tank, Marni sandals, Blackout Circle Shades

“I love this kimono-print piece because is kind of a shirt, kind of a jacket, and kind of a dress. It’s everything.”

Fred Perry polo shirt, Acne jeans, Dr. Martens boots, Blackout Circle Shades

“I’m a huge fan of mixing classic menswear with unexpected pieces, like a perfectly fitted polo tucked into skin-tight leather pants.”

Dr. Martens boots

“I always like to add a pop of something when getting dressed. I fell in love with the colorful tapestry print on these Docs because it goes with almost anything.”

Nasty Gal vintage fur coat, Alexander Wang knit, COS leather pants, Comme Des Garcons shoes, Astro Circle Shades

“This giant vintage fur coat is such a cool statement piece to top off a slim silhouette. It instantly transforms anything you have on.”

Japanese cap from eBay, Celine tuxedo shirt, vintage leather shorts, Jil Sander shoes, Marc Jacobs bangles, vintage rings and earring

“I’m an eBay addict, so a lot of the things I get are from really specific search terms I type in when I’m bored. It’s a great place to find designer pieces I missed out on, and to find things that reflect whatever vintage inspiration I’m obsessing over. This Japanese cap is one of my favorite scores.”

“I’ve always been drawn to scents since I was a little kid, whether it was the smell of food cooking in my grandmother’s kitchen or the worn-in leather seats of an old Mercedes. It’s really nostalgic for me. I like to wear really distinct fragrances, so I usually mix them together to make my own. One of my favorite scents in the world is the way cologne smells when it hits a leather jacket.”
