A new generation of scream queens to fall in love with!
We sat down with some of the ladies from AwesomenessTV’s series Light as a Feather on Hulu, for dress up and polaroids! The show came out this today, but before you get ready to binge, get to know the girls’ spookiest stories from filming, their funniest Halloween moments, and all the scream queen realness in-between.
Without telling too much, what can we expect from this first season of Light as a Feather?
Liana: Be prepared to binge it. It’s definitely a bingeable show.
Haley: I think the first episode you meet all the characters really quickly and you delve in.
Liana: It’s definitely scary and perfect for Halloween. It captures what a lot of teenagers want to watch right now, like love triangles, drama, ups and downs in friendship, and lots of secrets you find out about later in the season.
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Ajiona: I love American Horror Story and Bates Motel!
Haley: My favorite is Halloween.
Brianne: I like The Others.
Liana: Anything James Wan, like The Conjuring and Insidious. They’re very out of the box.
Were there any scenes that were actually scary to film?
Ajiona: The graveyard scene. I felt like I was being a little disrespectful and I actually said a little prayer before we went on.
Liana: “I actually got sick on location!”
Haley: This house we used to shoot in had some creepy things that happened. There was a bird that tried to fly in and it got suck on the window. It looked like set decoration but it definitely wasn’t.
Liana: There are black butterflies in our show, and we couldn’t use real ones because they’re out of season but out of nowhere a real black butterfly came on set one day.
Brianne: There were some weird things but we were in such good spirits all the time. Sometimes you hear on certain shows that things get a little creepy and cursed.
Who is the goofiest on set/behind the scenes?
Brianne: Definitely Ajiona…and Liana!
Ajiona: Yes, definitely us!
Liana: We’re monsters together. But we like to mess with each other on set which is really fun. During certain scenes, I would have to look in between Ajiona’s eyes because I couldn’t keep a straight face with her. “
How did you master your on-camera scream?
Haley: I’ve auditioned for a lot of horror movies so I think that’s where that came from. It’s nerve wracking your first scream on set because you don’t want to scare anyone, especially the sound guy [laughs].
Liana: You only have a few good screams. When I was younger, my mom put “excellent screamer” on my resume.
Ajiona: My dad put “cries real tears” on mine [laughs].
It’s so cool that the story of Light as a Feather started on Wattpad. Did anyone read the Wattpad story?
Liana: I think we were just behind the Wattpad generation. From the moment I signed on, the fan base has been so awesome–you immediately learn how loved the book is. So that was really cool to adopt a fan base like that. It makes you want to make it really good.
Brianne: I had no idea until I booked it. It was kind of daunting at first to find out there was huge fan base, but it makes me proud of the show that we made.
Haley: We all talked about reading the book. But we just decided not to because it can be distracting with certain things that happen in the book that might not happen in the show.
Has anyone actually played the game light as a feather, stiff as a board? Did it work?
Liana: I grew up playing it. In my friends backyard we would play it. We would never predict each other deaths or anything like that. We would just chant, and one time we actually levitated a friend of ours!
What’s the scariest thing that’s happened to you IRL?
Ajiona: I was watching Annabelle with my dad. There was a part of the movie where the TV starts flickering at 3am, that night I woke up at 3am because my TV turned on. I slept with my parents for a week after that.
Haley: The scariest thing that’s ever happened to me is growing up in Texas and driving through tornados. Every time there was a tornado I was in a car. I’d like to never see a tornado again in my life.
Brianne: For me, my ex-boyfriends. Definitely my ex-boyfriends.
Funniest Halloween memory?
Haley: When I was 10, my best friend and I decided to be Romy and Michele from Romy and Michele’s high school reunion and we didn’t know it was rated R. So we would go trick or treating and tell everyone who we were and got a lot of weird looks.
Liana: There was this really long driveway and me and all of my friends would douse ourselves in fake blood. We would just scare the crap out of all of these kids. We became the infamous scary driveway in our neighborhood.
Ajiona: I remember me and my friend actually dressed up as salt and pepper and we didn’t have costumes we just had aluminum foil and made hats.
Describe your style in three words:
Ajiona: Tomboy, glamorous, unpredictable. Oh, and undeniable. I need 4 words.
Liana: Comfortable, flirty….grandma!
Brianne: Vintage, tomboy, earthy.
Haley: Classic, vintage, feminine.
