One half of indie-pop duo WESLEE, Emma is the chill girl we all strive to be. Her personality is just as sweet and smooth as the vibe of WESLEE’s tracks, but her vocals are sharp and hard hitting to the core. Safe to say, we’re a little obsessed. Emma stopped by Nasty Gal HQ to play dress up in vintage threads and talk all things music.

Where are you originally from?

I’m originally from Southwest London currently over the pond in LA.

When did you start singing?

Honestly since before i can remember. Most of my family are pretty musical, so really been into it from a young age.

How has your musical style evolved over time?

I think my music style has evolved as I’ve evolved. Musically i guess the older you get the more music you get exposed to, and lyrically, I’m experiencing more life so got more of a story to tell.

What do you love most about being in a musical duo?

I get to work with my best friend. And it’s also nice having someone to bounce off and go through all this stuff with.

What is your favorite song you’ve written so far?

Well, I’m not one for favorites, especially when each song represents a moment in time for me, but I will say some of the new songs got me excited!

Who inspires you most?

Not music related but right now I’m most inspired by Spike Lee winning his first Oscar. Honestly, thought dude already had one.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?

Smile more!

What would you say to young girls looking to pave their own path?

Do it! No one is going to do it for you and even if they did it wouldn’t be the way you wanted. It’s easy to forget how strong we can be.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?

Cozy is best!

Vintage or new?

Vintage always.

Fast food or sweets?

Donuts! Do donuts count as fast food or sweet?

Heels or sneakers?

There’s a time and a place for heels but its gotta be sneakers.

Keep an eye out for new music coming in May, and follow WESLEE on Spotify to vibe out with their current tunes.
