Tuesday, June 18, 2013 DIY: DIY Crayon Lipstick

We decided to make crayon lipstick because we thought it looked like fun. But in light of recent news that traditional lipstick contains lots of scary stuff, it turns out that it’s pretty practical too! Crayons are totally non-toxic and made to be safe enough for kindergarteners to munch on, and all the other ingredients are food-grade, so perfectly okay to put on your lips. Try this out, and you’re guaranteed to be the brightest crayon in the box…er, room.

What You’ll Need:
crayons; shea butter; argan or olive oil; fresh herbs like rosemary or lavender; measuring spoon; small container; a pot for boiling water, stainless steel bowl

Step 1: Use a double boiler or fill a pot half way and boil water. Then, place a stainless steel bowl on top of the pot, so that it is heated by the boiling water.

Step 2: Add 1/2 tsp of shea butter

Step 3: Add 1/2 tsp of argan oil. You can substitute olive or castor oil, but argan is especially moisturizing and good for the skin.

Step 4: Add 1 sprig of rosemary, lavender, or thyme to scent your lipstick.

Step 5: Mix and match! Add approximately 1 whole crayon (with wrappers removed). You can mix and match a number of different colors to make the perfect shade.

Step 6: Pour mixture into a small container. We used empty paint pots, but you can also buy specific lip balm pots at any craft store. Refrigerate your lipstick for 15 minutes.

Step 7: Now wear it!
