Our current must-haves, according to the boss babes of Nasty Gal HQ.
Even though she casts the models for our campaigns, our LA-based producer Mei can easily be mistaken for one. She floats into the office, all willowy and clad in some kind of amazing statement pant on the regular, so we thought it was about time to get her in front of the camera already. She insisted on doing so under one condition: that we capture her in her natural habitat, trolling Los Angeles for the best fried chicken. Read on for all the secrets from one of our best-kept ones.
“I’m all about comfort! That’s my #1 rule. If I’m comfortable in my clothes, then I feel confident and confidence is key. I wear a lot of black and white and love bright orange and yellow pieces for pops of color. I’m very minimal when it comes to accessories. I’d say a fusion of classic, minimalist, sporty, and trendy would describe my style. The only piece I can’t handle is a flip flop.”
This is my favorite look. I wanted something a bit more trendy & fun for Birdie’s (TIP: Get the Original sandwich and the pistachio donut) as it’s newer and in DTLA. The black bandeau was a no brainer choice, but I needed a piece to add some coverage as I don’t like being to exposed. Gingham is having a moment this summer so I felt like it was the perfect compliment to the bandeau. I wrapped the look with two of my staples–my Henri Bendel black trousers and Converse.
Trousers are a staple for me–the high waisted black trousers with pleats from Henri Bendel are something that I will never let go of–but I can get down with a good floral for a special occasion. This was one was for Roscoe’s classic chicken and waffles. Shout out to the syrup and collard greens!
Midi length is my go-to length for dresses so this blue floral dress caught my eye. The florals, ruffles, and small side cutouts screamed my version of summer in LA. Wrapped the look with a pair of fresh leather slip on sneakers.
What is there to say about KFC other than… I love it for the price! Multiple locations, dirt cheap, and they’ve got some damn good drive thru options.
I love wearing collared shirts with denim, so naturally this look made sense. I went with cutoffs over jeans as I wanted the look to be a bit more casual for KFC (the 6-piece bucket kind of calls for that). The semi-sheer printed top was a nice pop of color to keep the look fresh and cool. I topped the look with a pair of trusty high tops. Comfortable …yes!
