She takes 1st place in making your butt look 100.
Tyler Haney was “sick of shiny black spandex that made you look like a superhero.” The Boulder native grew up loving sports, but unlike a lot of her competitors, she also obsessed over fabrics, colors, and yes, whether her butt was on point in a uniform. What she wasn’t obsessed with was the “faster, better, harder” credo of major sports brands. Looking to create a line that approached activity with “ease, humor, and delight” as opposed to antagonism, she left the rockies for the big apple and enrolled in the Parsons School of Design. Fastforward a few years, and this former hurdler is now sailing over obstacles right and left as the founder and CEO of Outdoor Voices, the activewear brand that Lena Dunham and Gwenyth Paltrow swear by. In this episode, Tyler talks to Sophia about her first shit job as a ska-loving janitor, how she got into the offices of venture capitalists when she “had no business being there,” and what it was like when Jenna Lyons asked her for 11,000 units of Outside Voices product.
